2011 Student Exchange

Six very excited students from Busselton high schools arrived at the Perth International Airport on the 2nd October, ready to depart to Sugito in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Having previously hosted students from Japan in August, the students were looking forward to seeing Japan_523_800x600.jpgtheir host brothers or sisters again and were also very excited to experience living in another country for 12 days. Accompanying the students were two teachers from Cape Naturaliste College, Mrs Mandy Torpy and Mr Matt Sims.

During their stay in Japan the students attended school with their host brothers or sisters and enjoyed learning maths, social studies, English and even calligraphy, all in Japanese. Day trips were the highlight of the trip, however, including visits to the famous shopping district in Harajuku, Sensoji Temple in Tokyo and Disneyland.

All six students thoroughly enjoyed staying with their host families and experiencing daily life in another country. They were introduced to Japanese customs such as using chopsticks for breakfast, lunch and dinner, sleeping on futon beds, taking traditional baths in onsen and even using the bizarre electric toilets!

After 12 exhausting days the students were sad to say goodbye to their host families but also excited to be returning home to share their experiences with their own families and friends.
