2014 Cultural Exchange
As with other exchanges this years visit between citizens of Busselton and Sugito helped create and strengthen friendships between the two cities.
Fourteen people participated in the biennial exchange during the nine day home-stay visit in early November with twelve of the participants being first time visitors to Japan, enjoying regular discoveries of the many facets of Japanese home and daily life, surrounded by the generous and warm hospitality of their host families and Sugito Town hosts.
Toshi Ogura of the Sugito International Affairs section created a stimulating program covering infrastructure, education, history, pleasure, craft and free time with host families.
During the ten day trip the group visited the Outer Metropolitan Underground Discharge Channel and Sugito Garbage Disposal Centre, the Sugito Agricultural High School, Shirayuri Kindergarten, Yoshida House and Asahi Brewery.
The group also had an overnight trip to Atami hot springs resort and visited Hakone and the foothills of Mt Fuji, as well as having the chance to try indigo dyeing, soba making, and Japanese paper (washi) making.
