2008 Cultural Exchange
A tour group of eleven, including the Shire President, Wes Hartley travelled to Sugito in November. While there, they visited Hakone an area south of Tokyo famous for hot springs, its natural beauty and the views of nearby Mt. Fuji. They also spent a day in Kawagoe or little Edo of Tokyo, an area that has been declared a national treasure and is famous for it's old warehouses. The tour group also spent some time in Sugito touring their public facilities, learning how to make sushi and doing Etagami, a Japanese folk art consisting of simple hand-painted drawings accompanied by a few apt words. Apart from these activities the visitors enjoyed a busy weekend with their hosts.
